Meet the Miami Team Behind Calder Gate Repair Miami

We’re a small crew by design. Gate repair in Miami is the kind of work that goes sideways fast when you’ve got too many hands and not enough eyes on the details, so we keep the team tight. Everyone on this truck has worked Florida gates long enough to know what salt air does to a circuit board and what a summer downpour does to a limit switch. Mostly, we’re united by the same thing that brought Nico in back in 2009: gates fail in predictable ways, but they fail harder here, and someone needs to fix them properly the first time.

Our People

Nico Alvarez, Owner & Lead Technician

Nico started Calder Gate Repair in 2009, back when Miami gate repair usually meant calling whichever name was painted on the side of a truck and hoping for the best. He wanted something different: a written price before the first tool comes out, and a repair that actually holds. Two decades of Florida humidity have taught him exactly which components corrode first on a LiftMaster or a FAAC, and he still runs diagnostics on the toughest jobs himself. The tagline on the truck is his: “Your gate, fixed and tracked to the door.” He’s the one who answers when a technician needs a second opinion on a Ghost Controls board that’s doing something strange. Off the clock, he’s rebuilding a 1972 Datsun in his Coral Gables garage, which is another way of saying he likes taking things apart until they make sense.

Luis R., Senior Installer

Luis has been setting gate posts and running opener arms in Miami-Dade for 14 years. If a gate is out of plumb or a post has shifted in sandy soil, Luis is the person who notices it before the first bolt gets tightened, because a gate opener that’s fighting a crooked gate is a gate opener that eats its own gears in a year. He’s factory-familiar with Linear and Viking hardware and handles most of the heavier installs we take on. He keeps a folding ruler in his back pocket instead of a tape measure, which drives the apprentices crazy until they watch him lay out a full gate in half the time. When he’s not running wire, he’s fishing the canals in Hialeah, usually with the same level of patience he brings to a stubborn gate.

Carmen T., Service Coordinator

Carmen is the voice on the phone at 2 a.m. when your gate won’t close and you’re trying to figure out whether it’s safe to leave it open. She’s been in Miami service dispatch for over a decade and knows the difference between “the gate is making a grinding noise” and “the gate is making a grinding noise and also smoking,” which saves a lot of time on the phone. Carmen schedules every visit, tracks the technician’s live arrival time, and makes sure the written quote is in your hands before any work begins. She’s also the person who calls you back after a repair to confirm the gate has cycled properly a few hundred times. Originally from Little Havana, Carmen knows half the neighborhood gates by address and most of the dogs by name.

Marcus D., Apprentice Technician

Marcus joined the crew two years ago after finishing a low-voltage wiring program and spending a summer working on marine electronics. Gates weren’t the plan, but he got hooked on the problem-solving: every gate behaves a little differently depending on its age, brand, and whether the original installer took shortcuts. Under Nico and Luis, he’s been trained on all nine brands we service, but he’s especially sharp on BFT and Mighty Mule openers. He carries a notepad with torque specs and wire diagrams he’s drawn himself, and he’s the one who double-checks that every safety sensor is aligned before we call a job done. Marcus rides a motorcycle, which means he also understands exactly how bad a misaligned gate sensor can be when it starts closing on the wrong thing.

One Standard, Every Job

Every gate that leaves our hands in Miami carries the same three commitments, whether it’s a hinge replacement or a full opener swap. You get a written price before work starts, not after. You get the 365-Day Done Right Promise on every repair: if the fix fails within a year, Calder makes it right with a free return visit, no debate and no invoice. And you get a written guarantee on the work itself, stated on paper, every time.

That’s what being part of the Relay Home Co. network means for us. Each location is independently owned and operated, but we all hold to the same baseline, which in this network is called The Relay Standard. Live arrival time so you’re not chained to a four-hour window. Background-checked, uniformed technicians. Before-and-after photos on the appointment. A digital invoice you pay from a link, after you’ve seen the work. This is how Nico runs his shop, and it’s how the whole crew works.

Nobody here wants to be the third gate company you call. We want to be the one that shows up, prices it fairly, fixes it correctly, and puts the guarantee in writing so you never have to wonder what “done right” actually means.
