Most Mighty Mule keypad and intercom repairs in Miami run between $145 and $320 installed, and we stock the common Mighty Mule keypad and intercom parts on our trucks so we can typically complete the swap the same day we diagnose it. The way Miami owners usually find out their keypad has failed is simple: they punch in the code, hear nothing, and end up buzzing themselves in through the intercom or walking around to the pedestrian gate. Sometimes the buttons just stop responding one by one, and sometimes the whole unit goes dark after a heavy rain. Either way, you’re standing outside your own gate, and that’s not where anyone wants to be at 6pm on a Tuesday.
We’re Calder Gate Repair Miami, the gate repair specialist inside the Relay Home Co. family. We work on Mighty Mule systems every week, from older FM series units to the newer MM series, and we’re not affiliated with Mighty Mule – we’re an independent shop that picked Mighty Mule as one of the nine brands we carry parts for because we see so many of them across Miami-Dade.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Mighty Mule has used a few different keypad styles over the years, and the part that fits your gate depends more on the control board than the age of the opener. The FM500, FM502, and MM360, MM371, and MM572 series all use low-voltage wired keypads that tie into the control board’s accessory terminals. Older FM350 and FM200 units sometimes have a keypad with a different pin spacing, which is the single biggest compatibility gotcha we see: it looks identical in a photo, but the mounting screws and the ribbon connector don’t line up. That’s why we always ask for the model number off the side of the keypad or the control board before we dispatch, and it’s why we carry a couple of mounting plate adapters on the truck for the awkward in-between years.
On the intercom side, Mighty Mule doesn’t make many intercoms of its own. Most Miami properties with a Mighty Mule opener have a third-party intercom wired into the opener’s radio receiver or wired input. Those we repair too: DoorKing, Linear, Aiphone, and a handful of others. The repair usually comes down to a failed microphone, a corroded call wire at the gate post, or a transformer that finally gave up after a decade of Florida humidity.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad backlight is on but buttons do nothing. This usually means the keypad’s internal circuit board has moisture damage. Miami’s humidity plus the salt air near the coast does this faster than anywhere else we’ve worked.
- Some buttons work while others don’t. That’s a failed membrane switch inside the pad. You can’t repair just one button; the whole keypad gets swapped, which is why we keep replacements handy.
- Gate opens fine from the remote but not the keypad. That points to the wiring between the keypad and the control board, not the board itself. Rodents chewed the low-voltage line, or a weed trimmer nicked it near the post.
- Intercom crackles, hums, or drops the call when the gate opens. Usually a weathered microphone or a loose ground connection at the gate operator. We test the mic first because it’s the $30 fix that solves 60% of intercom complaints.
- Keypad works after a rain but dies a few days later. Water is getting into the housing. The gasket behind the faceplate is gone or the weep hole at the bottom is plugged with dirt.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
A Mighty Mule keypad replacement in Miami runs $145 to $230 installed, which includes the part, the service call, wiring checks, and sensor testing before we leave. Intercom work runs $180 to $320 depending on whether we’re replacing a handset, a call station, or chasing a wiring fault. The biggest variable is wire age: homes in older pockets of Coral Gables and Coconut Grove often have buried low-voltage wire from a previous gate install, and if it’s corroded through, we may need to run a new line rather than splice the old one.
Every quote is in writing before anything moves. That’s the standard Nico Alvarez set when he started the crew here: you know the exact number before a single bolt comes off. We don’t add trip fees at the door, and the labor warranty on the repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the keypad or intercom repair fails within a year, we come back at no charge. No fine print, no pro-rating.

You can safely check a few things yourself: make sure the keypad has power, that the breaker feeding the gate opener hasn’t tripped, and that the wire run from the keypad to the control box hasn’t been nicked by a string trimmer. That last one is the most common free fix we see in Miami backyards. If the keypad housing is cracked or you can see condensation inside the lens, that’s where we’d stop the DIY route. These are low-voltage units, so there isn’t a serious shock risk, but opening a weather-sealed keypad without the right sealant usually makes the water problem worse within a month. The control board side is more delicate – a crossed wire at the accessory terminals can take out the board, and that’s a $140 part instead of a $30 one.
If the keypad is dead and you’d rather not be the one with a screwdriver at the gate post, call us at (850) 821-3781. We’ll give you a straight answer over the phone and a written price before the tech arrives.
FAQs
Most Mighty Mule keypads last 4 to 7 years in Miami’s climate, with coastal properties near the bay or ocean failing a year or two sooner due to salt air. If you’re past year five and the buttons are getting soft, it’s worth budgeting for a replacement now rather than waiting for a total failure.
Rarely. The membrane and board are sealed as one unit, so when one button fails you’re replacing the whole keypad. The good news is the part is priced accordingly, and we keep the common Mighty Mule keypads on the truck, so it’s a single-visit repair in most Miami neighborhoods. Call (850) 821-3781 and we can confirm what we have before you schedule.
Keypad replacement runs 30 to 45 minutes. Intercom repair can run an hour to 90 minutes depending on the wiring. Either way, it’s a same-visit job in most cases; we carry enough stock on the truck to finish it the day we arrive.
We keep parts for LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, DoorKing, and Mighty Mule in the truck alongside the other brands in our lineup. If your intercom is a third-party unit wired to a Mighty Mule opener, we can probably handle that in the same visit. Call (850) 821-3781 for a free estimate over the phone.
