When a BFT gate welds its mounting bracket to a swing arm that has rusted through, or a hinge tears loose from the post, you need a fabricator who understands how BFT geometry works, not just someone with a welder. We weld and fabricate BFT-compatible components in Miami every week, and most repairs run $350 to $900 installed. We keep a truck stocked with steel plate, hinge rebuild kits, and BFT-compatible mounting hardware, which means we can usually handle the fab work same-day once we see the damage.
The typical story we hear from Miami owners: the gate starts sagging at the latch side, then makes a scraping sound, then one morning it won’t close because the lower hinge tore through the post. Salt air near Brickell and Biscayne Bay accelerates rust on weld points. That’s the part we fix.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT builds their swing gate systems around a few shared geometries. If you have a Deimos BT, Phobos, Rigel, Sub, or Icaro swing opener, the welding and fabrication work generally falls into three buckets: hinge post repair, gate frame reinforcement, and opener bracket re-welding. These models share similar arm attachment points, so a weld failure looks the same across the line even when the opener electronics differ.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha worth knowing: BFT swing arms mount to the gate via a weld plate or a through-bolted bracket, and the plate geometry changed slightly between older Deimos units and the current production run. If you have an original Deimos from before roughly 2015, the arm may not line up with a newer aftermarket bracket without cutting and re-welding. We measure the existing mount before ordering anything.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: BFT does sell replacement hinge assemblies, but they’re priced like imported Italian hardware, and many Miami owners find a quality aftermarket hinge rebuild with stainless bearings outlasts the original in coastal conditions. We’ll quote you both options when both exist and let you decide. Calder Gate Repair Miami is an independent service provider, not affiliated with BFT, so our only loyalty is to the repair that holds up in South Florida weather.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the latch side. A lower hinge weld that’s stretching or cracking lets the gate drop, which throws off the BFT arm’s travel arc and makes the opener strain. Left alone, the opener burns out.
- A scraping or groaning sound when the gate moves. That noise usually means metal on metal where a weld has shifted. The gate frame is dragging on the post or the arm is binding at the mount.
- Rust weeping from the hinge or bracket area. In Miami humidity and salt air, rust visibly streaking from a weld point means the joint is failing from the inside out. It’s not cosmetic.
- The gate stops mid-travel and reverses. BFT control boards read resistance as an obstruction. If a weld failure has changed the gate’s geometry, the board trips even though nothing is in the way.
- You can wiggle the gate by hand at the hinge post. A solid gate shouldn’t move at the post unless you’re leaning your full weight into it. Play at the hinge means the weld has already let go.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Most BFT weld and fabrication work in Miami falls between $350 and $900 installed, and the range depends on what we’re fabricating. A simple hinge re-weld runs on the lower end. Rebuilding a rusted-out gate frame section is mid-range. Cutting out and re-fabricating a failed opener mount, especially on a heavier gate, hits the upper end.
Every quote includes the steel, welding consumables, primer and anti-corrosion coating, labor, and a written warranty on the fabrication. We use rust-inhibiting primer on every weld before paint because Miami’s coastal air will find bare metal within months. Price in writing before anything moves, that’s just how it should work. And the number on your invoice matches the quote you approved, not a dollar more.
If this is your first major gate repair in Miami, know that BFT fabrication costs more than other brands because the arms attach to specific weld plates rather than universal brackets. That’s the trade-off for a gate opener that fights back against hurricane season.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check the gate for visible signs of failure: stand at the hinge post and push the gate sideways, look for rust streaks, and listen for grinding during travel. What you shouldn’t do is try to weld the hinge yourself, and here’s the plain reason: a swinging gate stores tension, especially if the opener is still attached and under load. Cutting a failed weld releases that tension without warning. A gate edge is a few hundred pounds of steel that can swing faster than you can move.
Welding BFT mounts also means the arm must be realigned within a narrow tolerance, or the opener fights itself and burns out the board. That’s a $600 problem created by a $50 weld attempt. This is the one repair where we quietly ask owners to leave it to someone with a welder and years of gate experience. FAQs
A properly primed, coated, and stress-relieved weld on BFT gate hardware lasts 8 to 12 years in Miami before coastal corrosion becomes a concern, longer inland. Rust never sleeps near Biscayne Bay, so we treat every weld for salt air exposure from day one. Call (850) 821-3781 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your existing weld can be re-dressed or needs full replacement.
Sometimes yes, if the surrounding metal is still structurally sound and the crack hasn’t spread, we can grind back the failed weld and re-weld the joint with a heavier fillet. When rust has thinned the parent metal or the original weld geometry was flawed, re-fabrication is the only repair that survives. Estimates are free, so call (850) 821-3781 and we’ll tell you which path fits your gate.
Most BFT hinge re-welds and bracket fabrications are done in 2 to 4 hours on site in Miami, and the gate is operational the same day. A full hinge rebuild on both posts, with measuring, cutting, welding, and re-coating, can extend to a second visit only if the damage is deeper than the initial inspection showed. We’ll give you the timeline with the written quote before any work starts.
We stock common BFT-compatible hinge pins, weld plates, reinforcement steel, and mounting hardware on our Miami trucks, so most jobs don’t wait on a parts order. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls for the neighbors who own those instead. Call (850) 821-3781 and describe what failed, and Nico Alvarez or one of our techs will tell you if we can fix it today.
