BFT Access Control Installation: The Miami Owner’s Guide

We install and replace BFT access control systems across Miami every week, and the installed price typically lands between $1,600 and $4,200 depending on the panel, reader type, and how far the power run needs to travel. Most single-entrance BFT keypad or card reader setups run $1,600 – $2,800, while multi-door systems with intercom or phone-app entry push toward the top of that range. We usually have common BFT control boards, keypads, and readers on the truck, so a failed panel swap can often happen same-day. Owners usually discover their access control has failed the hard way: the keypad stops accepting codes, the card reader blinks but won’t release the gate, or the whole system goes dark after a storm. That’s the moment you need someone who knows BFT wiring, not someone learning on your property.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT has been manufacturing access control and gate automation equipment out of Italy for decades, and their current lineup splits into a few series that show up constantly in Miami residential and small commercial properties. The most common panels we service are the BFT PERSEO, THALIA, IGEA, and ARES control boards, paired with BFT keypads like the MITTO wireless keypad or the CLONIX radio receiver, and card readers built around 125 kHz EM or 13.56 MHz Mifare credentials. The compatibility gotcha many owners hit: BFT switched protocol generation between the older “Rolling Code” remotes and the newer “Clonix” receivers, so a keypad from a 2015 install won’t necessarily talk to a 2022 control board. The board inside the enclosure has a model sticker printed directly on the PCB – that sticker, not the enclosure housing, is how you match the right part. We’ll verify the board revision, receiver frequency (433.92 MHz is the BFT default for gate access in the U.S.), and the reader’s protocol before ordering anything. OEM BFT parts are worth it when the panel logic or encryption is the failure point; for simple brackets, antennas, and power supplies, a quality aftermarket equivalent saves money without cutting corners. Calder Gate Repair Miami is an independent service provider and not affiliated with BFT – we just work on their equipment every day.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad’s radio signal reaches the receiver, but the control board isn’t firing the motor output. Usually a relay or output circuit failure inside the BFT panel, or a loose connector between the board and the operator.
  • The system works for some residents but not others. Individual credentials are stored on the board, and unauthorized reprogramming by a past vendor, power spikes from Miami storms, and software corruption can wipe certain slots. The board hasn’t died – we can often re-flash and restore access the same visit.
  • Card reader beeps but never unlocks. This points to mismatched credential types. An older 125 kHz EM card won’t read on a Mifare-only reader. BFT keypads with built-in readers support one frequency, not both, so we confirm the exact reader module before adding new fobs.
  • System is completely dark – no lights, no beep, nothing. Almost always a power supply or transformer failure, and South Florida humidity plus a poorly sealed enclosure turns a small problem into a board-destroying one. Condensation inside a Miami gate enclosure is a leading cause of BFT board failure we see year-round.
  • Gate works from the BFT remote, but the standalone keypad or access box doesn’t. In split systems where an external BFT access unit talks wirelessly to the operator, the housing can develop rusted antenna wire, a failing battery, or water intrusion at the cable gland. Replacing the outdoor reader often restores everything without touching the main board.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

BFT access control installation in Miami splits into equipment and labor, and we put both in writing before any work starts. A straightforward BFT keypad replacement with the panel already in place runs $450 – $850 installed, with the keypad or reader unit itself costing $180 – $400 depending on model. A full control board swap on a BFT THALIA or PERSEO panel typically runs $650 – $1,300, including the board, re-programming existing remotes and credentials, and testing the full cycle. A complete new access control installation – panel, reader, wiring run, power supply, and programming – lands between $1,600 and $2,800 for single entrance residential gates, and can reach $4,200 when you add phone-app entry, multiple readers, or an intercom station. Every quote covers the part, the labor, and the exact scope so there’s no mystery line item at the end. All BFT access control work we complete carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails within a year, Calder Gate Repair Miami returns at no charge to make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

BFT access control systems run on low-voltage DC power and encrypted credential protocols – that makes them safer to inspect than a gate motor, but still punishing when wired wrong. You can safely check these: confirm the breaker is on, look for a burning smell near the enclosure, and verify the keypad housing isn’t full of water or chewed by ants (a classic Miami failure we see constantly). What you shouldn’t do is open a sealed BFT panel and start moving wires. These boards carry live line voltage at the power input terminals even when the system looks dead, and a crossed low-voltage wire between the outputs can fry a replacement board the second you power it back up. If you’ve swapped a keypad battery and the system still won’t respond, call us at (850) 821-3781. We’ll diagnose over the phone, give you a flat-rate quote, and the number we quote is the number on the invoice.
